- An adidas junkie born with three stripes in his head, Sankofa has been working mics since '98. Harnessing a need to make songs, he invented the Obese America imprint and used it as his musical outlet. Somewhere between Australia, Minnesota, China, Sweden, California and Indiana, his knack for making music with friends mutated. His most recent CD effort, The Tortoise Hustle, saw Imageyenation's El Keter behind the boards for 12 of the 16 tracks. From early work with the CunninLynguists, White Collar Criminals, and Kashal-Tee to more recent fare, Fort Wayne's perpetual motion machine pledges to keep making music until the fun is gone. Turning a new leaf, Music with Friends 1 is a free, download-only chapter in Sankofa's Obese America anthology. Sankofa (whose name is an Akan word meaning "learning from the past and building for the future") assures you he is a Fort Wayne rapper on URB's Next 100 and not a Brooklyn hardcore band.

Unlike many other rappers Sankofa is making music for the sake of music and not for success. Hence, "I don't need to make it in rap, I make rap" (quote from Just rap). That might be why we can enjoy his music for free and he does not seem to be interested in publicity. In terms of a bio I can present you above quote and picture.
